Dialing
9-1-1
Chino Champion, Sat, Nov 8th, 2003, Mark Kallam
Local Author Eleanor Aspin's new book is full of rhymes and
colorful pictures-and carries an important message.
Her book,
titled "Help Me, Help Me," shows children ages 3
to 8 years old how to dial 9-1-1 and shows them situations
where emergency assistance would be needed.
Ms. Aspin,
who has been a self-employed cosmetologist for 20 years, said
she was inspired to write the book by her granddaughter, Haylee
Kathleen, and wanted to find a unique way to show her how
to dial 9-1-1.
The 23-page
book features various situations that might require someone
calling for help such as someone being bit by a dog,a grandmother
falling or children being left home alone.
Ms. Aspin,
who also did the illustrations, said she took special care
to make sure the situations were serious enough to warrant
dialing 9-1-1,but were also presented in a way so children
wouldn"t be scared.
The book
also has a page with an illustrated phone pad so young readers
can practice dialing 9-1-1 on their own. "Help Me, Help
Me" was published by PublishAmerica and can be purchased
from its Web site, www.publishamerica.com, Ms. Aspin said.
This is
her first book, but she said she's working on three more she
hopes are published in the future.
