Village Landmark Restoration Project Under Way
L'Etoile, March 23, 2006 by Darlene Lawson
The present St. Andrew’s United Church was built in 1859, during the pastorate of Rev. James Law. It was the third structure to be built on this site. The first building was built in 1820 and became inadequate as the congregation increased in size. The second structure was destroyed by fire in the spring of 1858 and the church as we know it today was completed in the next year. It was constructed on a rectangular plan in a combination of Georgian and Gothic detail, and with a majestic spire. The untold number of photographs and paintings of the church are an indication of its stately beauty and its place in the hearts of many residents and former residents alike.
