Prairie tales: Retired news anchor recalls career in new memoir

Carlsbad resident Bill Forbes is quick to mention that, during his career in radio and broadcast journalism, he has interviewed four presidents.
But being the honest journalist he is, Forbes is also quick to say that none of them was actually president at the time of his interviews.
Forbes did not have the type of glamorous journalism job that gave him access to the White House press room. His career was in Oregon, North Dakota, Ohio and Arkansas. His news mobile was not a fancy satellite studio on wheels, but a Volkswagen bus. His coverage area was so sprawling that for years he got to assignments by helicopter.
