Local author releases first book
The Albany Journal, March 16, 2006 by Sonny Lofton
Local resident and new author Katrina Gary is no stranger to heartache. Gary recently authored "Mama's Sacrifice", a book detailing her life with an abusive father who killed her mother and then committed suicide. The book, being released in April, details the events leading to her mother's tragic end after years of physical and mental abuse delivered by her father. She was only 13 years old when her father murdered her mon and a friend before taking his own life. In "Mama's Sacrifice," Gary attempts to explain abusive relationships and how they should be avoided. Gary feels that the children of those relationships are often left out or forgotten and she wants to see that this doesn't happen to other children in the future. Her goal is to set up battered spouse facilites in each state. She hopes her book will give adults and children somewhere to turn whan a relationship between two people starts to take a tragic turn, as it did with her parents. The resulting turmoil that placed Trina and her brother into homes with relatives contributed to additional problems for the surviving children. Gary told the Journal that is a "culture shock" for both of them as they left Atlanta and headed to south Georgia. Their new guardians were not as strict as their parents wre. Gary watched her brother drift into drug abuse and other hardships. She hopes that her book, "Mama's Sacrifice," will reveal to the reader an account of spousal abuse and its effects on the children of those couples. She says one of her greatest desires from the release of the book is to give other children and adults who read it ways to be released from destructive relationships and to learn to live without fear. "Mams's Sacrifice," will be available at Books a Million, Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Ordering can be done through websites of any of the afore-mentioned national book locations.
