‘Oldies’ softball team inspires member to write book

James Heffern may have discovered the fountain of youth — on a softball diamond.
Ten years ago, Heffern started an over-50 softball league. Four years ago, he realized the men playing on his team — who had overcome a variety of medical problems — were the stuff of a good book.
So he set out to capture their spirit and camaraderie in his first book, titled “Just One More Season.”
