Sheehy awaits release of new poetry book
The Citizen, April 29, 2006 by Andrew Wagstaff

Parrsboro Many felt the romantic pull of the Bay of Fundy, but Donna Sheehy is one of the few to put it into words.

The local poet is awaiting the release of her book of poetry, Romancing on the Bay of Fundy : My soul’s attraction, a collection of works she has put together over the past 15-20 years, with emphasis on the past five years she has spent living in the Parrsboro area with her husband Robert.

“The majority of the poems are inspired by the area,” she explained. “Even the ones I wrote before I moved here, I have felt them since I came to this area. I love it here.”

Originally from San Diego, Calif, Sheehy immigrated to this part of Canada after meeting her husband in 1998. After traveling to Nova Scotia, the couple decided to settle in Parrsboro.

“There’s a little bit of everything here, from beaches to mountains, wildlife and diverse cultures, she said. “There is so much here, and I just fell in love with it.”

Written in traditional rhyming and metered style, the new book reflects an assortment of these cultures, lifestyles and legends of the Bay of Fundy, as well as selected romantic poems. She said she has tried to cover everything that touched her during her years living in Nova Scotia, from the local clams and lobsters, to the plovers on the beach.

The journey has been an exciting on for Sheehy, who said her positive experiences living here are shown in the work.

“It’s very uplifting and not moody or depressing,” she said. “I wanted something light that reflected my love for the area and how I fell in love with it.”

Published by PublishAmerica, the book is expected for release soon, and will be available at outlets such as Chapters Canada, Borders, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Meanwhile, Sheehy has other projects in the works, including a children’s book inspired by her three grandchildren, and a romantic mystery.

Mysterious Charm of The Bay
By Donna Sheehy

(an excerpt from the book Romancing on the Bay of Fundy: My soul’s attraction)

Why does this ocean chill my hand
And escape through my fingers wide,
Yet, still warm deep within my core
With each wave of its flowing tide?

The alluring silences as each ebb
Draws me ever closer still,
Attracting this placid heart
Surpassing any basic will.

The mystery of the water’s flow
Has intrigued many who have viewed,
>From every moment their tide fades
To the next tidal moment debuted.

Perhaps it is the mysterious charm
That allures me to its shore,
A moment this splendid place
Will possess me every more.
