The
Dynamic Great Lakes
Book Sense web page, Nov. 11, 2002
Connected
to the Atlantic Ocean through the St. Lawrence River, Lake
Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, and Lake
Erie form the world's largest freshwater system, and account
for almost 20 percent of the Earth's fresh surface water.
Due to commercial fishing, the introduction of harmful exotic
species, and air and water pollution, the precious ecosystem
of the Great Lakes is under constant duress. In her cautionary
book, environmental activist and professor Spring enthusiastically
explores the Great Lakes, and clearly explains why they should
be protected.
