EAST MANATEE -- Katlyn Stewart had no idea what it was like to be free.

From the time she was 9 to 38 years old, the Old Miakka resident would put on long pajama pants, a thick pajama shirt and socks before she crawled into bed. She cocooned herself tightly into the blankets, rolling and rolling in the mounds of fabric until she felt secure enough to close her eyes.

She said she didn't know how to sleep without the constraints. She didn't know how to trust anyone.
