Coral Springs Resident's Poetry 'From Heart'
Our Town News, June 26, 2006 by Jonathan Del Marcus
A Coral Springs resident has recently embarked on a new voyage, a cruise of sorts if you will. And those who come along on her journey may find themselves in previously uncharted and deep emotional territory.
Helen Marie Daly’s “Expressions From My Heart,” a book of poetry which takes on sensitive subjects as diverse as the high of unconditional love to the searing pain of losing a child, is a quick and satisfying emotional pilgrimage.
Daly, a self-proclaimed “aspiring writer,” has lived in Coral Springs for the last 18 years, and just began her foray into poetry last summer, she said. It was then that she wrote one poem which was published in a poetry anthology.
“That got me going. I started getting really excited and motivated about it. I thought well ‘if I could write one poem and people really do like this, them maybe I do have some sort of a talent.’ So I kept writing,” Daly said.
And in a few months time, Daly, 59, had subsequently written more than 20 poems exploring major issues and events in her life. “Expressions From My Heart,” her first book which was published earlier this year, contains more than 50 of her poems.
“It’s a great feeling to be able to know it came from inside of me. All these poems are me. Everything that I’ve either experienced in my life or things that I feel deep within myself, they are all about me, my life, everything or anything that has gone on - the losses I‘ve had, the happy times and the sad times,” Daly said.
In “My Son Shawn” she describes a son who is lost and tormented and in “The Son I Lost,” Daly writes about another son who died. Hope in the future is expressed in “Dreams” and “Follow Your Dream.” And in “You Are Deep in My Soul” she explores how totally encompassing love can be.
Although Daly chose words to convey her feelings and poetic rhymes that are often simple, the themes are emotionally complex and the feelings that are evoked may linger after one has finished reading the book.
“Expressions From My Heart” can be purchased from www.PublishAmerica.com or www.amazon.com. Prices may vary from $9.95 to $12.95 depending on the retailer.
Those who may be interested in publishing a book with PublishAmerica should consult its website for more information, Daly said.
