Orfordville Journal, Apirl 2, 2003, by George Stewart
Flowers
Die, New Buds Form is the sequel to Gentle Ben's first book,
The Power of the Flower. This story anticipates Mary and Terry
as they are expecting their first child at any time. When
the child arrives stillborn, Mary is devastated. She experiences
very deep trauma and depression. She blames God, pushing away
all those close to her. Terry's patience finally runs out
and he can take no more. He loses his temper and destroys
the nursery they have spent so much time putting together
for the new baby. Emotionally and physically tormented, she
learns that Grandpa Hank is also dying. Mary struggles within
to find answers to questions she can't answer herself. She
realizes that she must go to the cemetery to visit the baby's
grave in order to find inner peace and make amends with God.
While at the gravesite she is confronted by a stranger to
whom she expresses her fears and doubts. About the Author:
Gentle Ben was born October 21, 1939 in a small farmhouse
outside Cooksville, WI, the youngest of five children. He
attended one room schoolhouses until he graduated from Orfordville
H.S. in 1957. In March of 1958, he enlisted in the Air Force
for a four-year tour of duty. While in the Air Force, it was
a friend that discovered Ben's dyslexia. This person helped
Ben learn ways to overcome the frustrations he suffered throughout
his life. Ben enjoys sharing his views on his dyslexia, and
the art of writing.
