Laurel author releases book on Vietnam
Hattiesburg American, October 11, 2006

FREDERICK, Md. – Sgt. Jerry R. Gandy of Laurel tells the story of “Battle Scars Fade: But Never Heal,” published by PublishAmerica.

The American public was unaware of the real events that took place during the Vietnam War, Gandy said. The media sometimes exaggerated the facts about the battles and missions.

Gandy said he feels sure that most of the fighting soldiers in Vietnam did not write home and give all the details about their daily lives in combat. He spent 14 years putting together this book.

The names used in the book are fictional, and the dates and places may not be totally accurate. The events of the missions and battles have been preserved through memories and battle-scarred flashbacks.

Gandy said he wrote this book with the prayer that it will open the eyes of the American people about the real Vietnam War and what the combat soldiers endured for them.

The Laurel native resides on his childhood land with his wife, Faye. The couple has three daughters: Pollyanna Gandy, Shellie Robinson and Ashley Jensen.
