Author
tells a tale of brutality, but a story of hope
Los Gatos Times, 4/13/03 by Mary Ann Cook
New Book:
Monte Serenan Glynnis Hayward has written a book about South
Africa under apartheid as the background. The book is set
in the 70's and , although it deals with police brutality
and attempted murder, it is ultimately a novel of hope and
reconciliation. The impetus for her novel came from her brother,
who was a South African lawyer and had grim tales to tell
of torture and terror from his clients. He is now an Anglican
priest. Hayward teaches ESL at Santa Maria Urban Mission and
was a teacher in both England and South Africa, where she
was born and grew up.
