Karnack author explores roots with poems

When she was about eight years old, Sondra Sue Kelly-Stanford began spending late nights in her grandmother's bedroom to listen to the older woman's stories. Soon, she realized her grandmother's tales were not yarns, but true accounts of her own heritage her Native American heritage.
Ms. Kelly-Stanford, who now resides in Karnack, was the only family member to whom her grandmother, Julia Mae Mason Calvert, divulged such sacred information. It wasn't because the others didn't deserve to know, she said, as much as it was to keep them safe.
