Green author's 2nd novel has more native lore
The Beacon Journal, August 13, 2006 by Barbara McIntyre
Green author Kathryn J.S. Long's first novel, Oklahoma's Gold, took a young Ohio woman west, where she met a handsome Cherokee ranch foreman. In Long's new book, A Pleasant View, an Ohio girl connects with a Seneca boy on summer vacations to the Allegheny Mountains in northwest Pennsylvania.
The story begins in 1957; Suzie Ford is 7 years old. On arrival at her family's cabin, she meets Sam Johnson, 10, and things begin happening. Sam is mauled by a bear; later, a pair of white teens rough him up. The adults discuss whether the government is going to go ahead with damming the Allegheny River, though it would violate a 1794 treaty.
