Hunting guide’s ‘lonesome’ lifestyle leads to book series
Dickson hunting guide Allen Russell recently wrote Love on the Lonesome Wind.

The Dickson Herald, December 16, 2005 by Teri Burton

When Dickson hunting guide Allen Russell isn’t leading an expedition in Montana he still can’t get the great outdoors out of his system. So he decided to write a book about life on the high eastern plains of the Big Sky State after the Civil War.

Part historical fact and part fiction, Love on the Lonesome Wind traces the life of Bolt Ashton, a Tennessean who fought in the Civil War, then drifted west to Montana in the 1870s where he and the bunch from the Lonesome Wind Ranch face danger and adventure, including outlaws, a buffalo stampede and rustlers.

But he also finds love and a son he never knew. It is also there that he meets proud Sioux warrior Black Elk and the final showdown takes place in Whiskey Hill when a robber baron and his hired guns from back east meet the Lonesome Wind cowboys.
