The barbershop is where politicians are elected, coaches are fired, and religions dissected. Everyone in a barbershop is a self-perceived expert, but none more qualified than the barber. This was the life Violet ''Chip'' Sims-McGhee knew for 20 years as a licensed barber, a life she learned from her parents, who cut hair into their 70s, and a life she is passing down to her son, C.J. McGhee.
