Mad Weed
Omaha City Weekly, February 22, 2007 by Jim Delmont

Also busy on the creative front is former Brownell-Talbot and UNO graduate, Adriana Szulczynska, who has written a first novel, “The Kiss of the Traitor,” about the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. The timing is just right because of the release of a newly translated “Gospel of Judas,” a project supported by the National Geographic Channel. New Testament studies in general is a hot topic these days and Adriana’s book should find an audience. Born in Poland, Adriana grew up here (her mother is a distinguished medical scientist) and now lives in Daytona Beach, Fla. In her novel, Jesus befriends a lost soul – a prostitute who has fallen in love with Judas. Though the friendship between Jesus and the woman is spiritual, Judas’ jealous rage leads to the famous betrayal.

Though a novel, the book has numerous footnotes reflecting Adriana’s research into Roman customs, manners, architecture, coins, religion, dress, and mythology, as well as the geography and culture of Palestine in the time of Jesus. The author has become so interested in the period that she is now researching French (Gallic) and Jewish rebellions against Rome in the first century as a subject for a second novel.

“The Kiss of the Traitor” can be found on its publisher’s web site: PublishAmerica.com.
